Human Resources is Awful

Pros

The manager I ended with treated me well and motivated me to do well. I don't think she knew the HR policies or she would've tried to keep me from getting screwed. She built a good team too, I liked most of my coworkers.

Cons

Don't work for O'Reilly Auto Parts. Just don't. Or at least don't go there for full time or benefits. Human Resources will thank your hard work and dedication by being purposely stingy with information that would save you thousands of dollars if only they told you how things worked and informed when exactly they ended. I don't care if this gets me blacklisted from working there anymore, I'm never going back after what they pulled on me. It hurts because I did everything right: I tried to get everything done that was my job (often doing more than some of the people I got stuck with), I did my two weeks when I left, I was often early and rarely late, I was courteous and friendly and professional, and I didn't abuse my sick days at the very end. I did my best to be the best. And yet, they treated me like yesterday's garbage. They are awful, horrible people, and I wish them the worst.

Pros

-Store level management - great store managers in my time, doing their best with very little they are given -High trust in associates, even if selectively - despite many, sometime costly, mistakes in my time, never felt for a moment that i would be in trouble as long as mistake was in an effort to help a customer

Cons

-Classic retail conundrum - corporate expects stores to constantly and consistently improve sales while reducing (labor) costs YoY, a model that is simply not sustainable, and holds store managers responsible for any shortcomings, creating an inescabable hampster wheel of struggle. -Consequentially, all but the best located and highest volume stores are faced with high manager turnover, leading to difficulty in maintaining a stable and consistent workplace

Pros

for an entry level job it is probably one of the best for teaching people about the automotive world and the retail world with out putting people at major risk of violence and harm. Diversity is one of the many things that O'Reilly's prides them selves on and I can say whole heartedly it is one of the most diverse work forces you could ever join.

Cons

information about career advancement is not making its way down to all members of team O'Reilly. pay is abysmal and benefits while present are far from even being considered on par with many of the other players in the field. . warehouse employees can join the teamsters. the company is also more interested in protecting higher up management rather than protect the company and the brand. some managers will purposely sabotage goals of attaining higher education
