Pros

Generally has some smart people in specific depts and people who really want to help SMBs. Decent office, good perks (although diminishing), easy hours, and decent pay if you negotiate. Great drinking events, basically college all over again if you're into that kind of thing. Laid back environment, if you want a decently paid, somewhat techie company in NYC this is it - but don't expect career advancement or to actually "disrupt" anything.

Cons

- The talent I joined to work with are all on their way out - Incompetence abounds at the management level - No plans or no communication of plans - Teams are not aligned, very hard to accomplish anything even though everyone is "empowered" - Political nightmare, everyone is interested in how much turf they control and not to play in their sandbox - Not a tech company, besides the credit models all their tech is worthless (poorly architected and commodities that should be acquired not built in house) - Terrible CTO, I am not even sure she understands what we do or who works for her - Actually most of the chiefs are incompetent, Noah is the only intelligent exec and it feels as if he is "asleep at the wheel" - Deceiving marketing and sales practices, The marketing department is as bad as the media makes them out to be, and sales is trained to "kick leads down a notch" to take what OnDeck offers. If you are a sociopath and want to convince hard working Americans to take overpriced loans, this is the place for you.

Pros

Good Snacks in the kitchen. I don't really have much to say here. Nice views of the city. Some people are actually nice

Cons

This place is a toxic environment. Senior Management Cares more about their title and turf vs making this place grow. The amount of office gossip and maneuvering is disgusting. You can't trust anyone. They don't promote within except if you we're employed very very early on. Even some of the early employed people have had marginal career growth. HR Team is incompetent and completely worthless Bad Office Culture! I hated coming to work every day. So Happy to move on.

Pros

Able to express your ideals, coworkers are just as committed as oneself would want. The ability to impact business needs.

Cons

Very top heavy with manager. First rounds of layoffs was last February since then another 2 rounds. Ondeck self proclaims it's an industry leader but really look into that no different then Kabbage or other lenders. It's hard coming to work each knowing you will lose your job in a couple months. If you work in the VA office have caution it's a matter of time before the floor is empty.

OnDeck Response

OnDeck made the strategic decision to relocate our Operations group to our Denver office to help optimize our management and execution, improve our collaboration between departments, and provide enhanced career opportunities. It is important to note that this was not a reduction in force but a strategic decision about where our staff should be located. We know this shift has difficult implications for a number of our team members and we are committed to helping everyone through this transition regardless of how they were impacted. While we will have a smaller footprint in Virginia, our office there remains a vital and critical part of our company.
