Pros
It is very difficult to find something positive to say about Optel
Cons
Optel on the whole is a company that believes it is an industrial powerhouse. The CEO and CTO believe they are some kindof evangelists in relation to Climate change and you will often hear the phrase "we are doing this for our children". This could not be further from the truth. The business was built off the back of a legislation change in the pharmaceutical supply chain. This led to massive business for Optel and they grew at an alarming rate. This is not because companies really wanted what Optel was selling. It was nobody else had it and Pharma needed to become compliant quickly. Therefore Optel was the only place to go. To say the company grew by an accident and pure dumb luck would be an under statement. There are a small number of employees who carry the vast majority of work and the rest are just bad managers with little to no actual leadership skills and they're main qualification is there ability to massage the ego of the CEO. There was massive lay off last year, this was done in 2 stages, the first one was kindof expected, then 3 weeks later they came back and told everyone 2 weeks before Christmas that they had got their sums wrong and realised they needed to shed a lot more people. They also made a claim that if it was not done 2 weeks before Christmas they would have to lay off a lot more. Don't really understand that but that's what we were told. The company claims that it's technology is saving the world. I don't really understand that statement. In reality Optel is just an example of how bad management can have a devastating affect on a company. They tell all their customers that they are agile, it is really unfortunate that most people in the company do not know what that actually means. Barges can turn faster than most of the departments in the company and all departments are headed up by managers who are just building empires The high turnover of staff is the complete lack of skills analysis prior to hiring them. The hiring process involves identifying any person who will accept a job offer and weather they can do the job or not is a secondary concern, really managers just see it as someone that they can blame for things that always go wrong. My honest advice to anyone is to avoid Optel, we are living in a world of high employment and Optel will just frustrate you.
