401k package is lacking. Size of company and being private, although having it's advantages of not having to answer to shareholders, brings about a whole other set of challenges. To really be in the 'mix', you must earn your rank and expect to be there for three to five years (depending on dept) before you see the common respect displayed towards those who have been at OSC since the mid to late 90's. Turnover is low, but sometimes that is viewed as a lack of willingness to cut the people really not making contributions for the company because they happen to fill a void for the time being as another warm body. This makes current employees doing their best feel a bit discounted and wondering if their efforts are really worth it for the incremental bonuses applied yearly.

The motto of Orchard Software is doing tons with little. An uncompetitive/unappealing salary for the amount of work once you leave Tech Support Depending on which department you're in there are unreal expectations put on you for your work load. Stress is unbelievably high because of the amount of people that either don't actually work, ie slack off while the boss isn't looking, or because there's just to much work to go around. A lot of the ways to get promoted is the "Good Ole Boy" system. Promoting someone into the development department who had no qualifications and placing a has been system engineer into their HL7 interface instead of firing him. It takes this job forever to fire the incompetent/lazy workers The sales staff is either incompetent or doesn't care about what they're selling. Just saying whatever to get themselves a bonus/commission. Training? You're not expected to know anything for 6 months but then that's fine because up until recently we didn't both training employees for more than a week before telling them the Titanic sunk and you need to start swimming. If you're a new Employee you spend 90% of your time wandering around trying to find the answers to your question. Some employees are decent at helping out the coworkers, others get in trouble for helping too much because it seems they're not actually working, and others just make it worse. Management is really composed of people who are about to retire and middle managers who can't judge how customer satisfaction factors into how many calls you closed this week. Constantly their best employees have been the ones whose closed calls were closed, but didn't factor in how often those customers came back within 10 minutes to get the problem solved. Good Luck taking your actual hour lunch and not being pulled away to help a coworker or to work on a project because you just don't have enough hours in the week otherwise. Salary
