Pros

Very challenging role with good exposure globally. Learned a lot while i worked there. Great team and lots of exciting projects and opportunities. Had a great manager who constantly look for the interest of those who worked with him. He was really great.

Cons

Last CEO almost destroyed the place after he promised no layoffs on his first day only to change his mind and embark on a faceless cost cutting exercise after the mining boom imploded. This was inevitable, but engaging the staff better and not demoting their job positions would have helped. How about also admiting you got it wrong, after all you said no layoffs. Lots of politics, role demotion and favouritism at the manufacturing arm led to mass exodus of great people. It was really a shame to see my manager leave.

Pros

Salary, Salary, Salary (which is not great but OK)

Cons

If you are not from down-under or from BHP, forget career advancement (to serious positions), Middle Management does not listen people working for them or follow strategy (just try to advance their own goals), Bonuses hah! what are those! If you work at HQ then you get communicated, anywhere else expect a delay between 12-24 months. Hours are horrible, especially with all alignment projects being executed (=get more to do, wit your normal salary)

Pros

International exposure, highly competent technical employees

Cons

Orica experienced a massive social experiment under the previous CEO that was a failure on all counts. A previously strong culture was undermined, the structure was poorly implemented, confusion and lack of accountability reigned and the results reflected all this.
