Pros

Market matching pay; high quality work; early responsibility; generally flexible hours (so long as the work gets done). They offer a non-partner track for associates who do not aspire to (or have the endurance to reach) partner -- its still unclear how long a career one could expect on that path.

Cons

Though flexible, the hours are many. Not specific to Orrick, but law firm culture/environment is a tough fit for most folks. Partner track is ~10 years.

Pros

Alternative Work Arrangements available, including Custom Track positions (80% schedule, 90% schedule, etc.) and flex time (working from home some days); many understanding partners; above-market compensation

Cons

Some awful partners; long hours (as with any large New York law firm); insufficient advancement of women; some practice groups do not have sufficient work to go around; some truly abysmal support staff and services

Pros

Great people and atmosphere. Paralegals get their own offices and sometimes even a secretary. Supportive environment

Cons

Long hours but expected at a large firm
