You will work over 40 hours a week, and many off the clock. They will run you and your crew members into the ground. I hired 5 differrent people in one week. They all quit. I had to feed my crew members and drive them places. They dont make enough money. They expect you to start your time after only once you reach your first pole. Want to work without entering data? You arent allowed. A typical day as a foreman is you wake up a little early, and start getting things ready. Once your crew is all in the truck, you start out to the poles you are inspecting. First, you have to go by and pick up a crew member. That takes 30 minutes out of your day. Then you head out. 30 minutes to 1.5 hours later, and you arrive at the work site. You unload everything, and get everything ready to go. You and your crew head out to the first pole, no matter what the weather is. Now, you are allowed to start your and your crews time. You are constantly training your new crew members. You only goal for the day is to hit bonus numbers. You do what it takes. If you dont, then you will have to answer to management, which will pop up and waste an hour of your day talking. They watch your from afar. Dont speed in your truck because you will get a call. You hike all day, up and down mountains, through mud, snow, water, whatever is in front of you doesnt matter. You get through it. You dig through it. Your crew members are expected to dig through anything. Mud, snow, ice, rocks galore. Production, safety, and quality is expected, but you have to cut corners somewhere in order to hit bonus production. Bonus production is where the management stays happy. Dont work over that because next map, more will be expected. The work is insane. After you hit your number, pack up, and head back to the hotel, you have to drop one crew member off that you picked up, and the ither two need a ride to a store. 1.5 hours later, you make it to the hotel. You clocked out at 8 hours. Once you get to the hotel, your day isnt over. You have to answer to your supervisor. After that, you have to hore a guy. 2 more hours later, and you are exhausted. Youve been running off of redbull and diet pills all day. You eat, shower, and pass out, dreading the next day. You dont even have time to call your child. They are asleep, and in bed by the time you are able to call. This is your everyday life as a foreman at osmose. Your crew members will make your job hell, just like management. They are unexperienced, broke, and making poor wages. They will accidently mess up equipment, and need to go home, and take lots of breaks, which only adds to the stress. Your crew on this job is so important to your success, but that crew gets paid unfair wages. He has to work like an animal. He gets no recognition. You do your best to figure out a groove that your crew can work in, but it is very hard with management putting so much pressure on you with harder to reach production numbers and meetings, and questions and more and more responsibilities. They will do their best to suck you dry. Go ahead, give the job a try. Lets see how far you make it.
