Grow with the company if you want growth in yourself
Pros
OuterBox is a place of many positive interactions. As I write this, I figure it is time to constructivly lay my thoughts down after finishing my first year within the company. During my tenure at OuterBox I've met some amazing people, people who truly care and want to grow. You're shown that you have a path that never ends, there is no dead end - if you hit a wall, OuterBox will give you some way to grow. OuterBox employees have one of the best friendship mentalities I have ever seen, you're not just another coworker you're a person, a person who's open for critique, engagement and most importantly growth. I can positively say that OuterBox is a great place to start your adventures in client facing SEO. There is never a feeling of needing more, you're fed clients at your own rate and a rate in which you can happily stop when you feel ready. My favorite part of OuterBox is the ability to work freely and openly using flexible time, you're encouraged to never work overtime though it's an option. It's amazing to be able to take an hour or two and take your wife to a doctor's appointment and not have to worry about putting in unneeded PTO requests, just get your 6 billable hours in at some point and you're fine! While reading the reviews regarding OuterBox one other previous employee had mentioned that there is a 'bro' culture... I strongly disagree with this aspect, though my direct manager could definitely be considered a bro, furthermore we have women in leadership roles who quiet frankly kick butt, and each and everyday OuterBox is looking for new ways to grow people into leadership roles, not just the bros. Overall, OuterBox is a great place to work but there are areas in which the company can grow in. If asked if I would recommend OuterBox to a friend there is no doubt in my mind that I would! I actively seek out candidates on LinkedIn who would fit the culture. With the expanding job market, I've been subject to several job opportunities flooding into my LinkedIn through new sources some of which have even prompted a higher pay straight in the application, though I stay planted at OuterBox as my promise to management for all they've given to me, professionally and personally. One of the last positives is just how awesome the clients are. I've made genuine connections with my clients and management is there to support clients through and though. One of my clients had cancer and OuterBox immediately teamed up with me and my team to send flowers and an entire care package. You can tell OuterBox doesn't sign everyone, in fact I've heard from sales managers they've turned down sales because the culture fit wasn't right. With two kids on the way, I can sure tell you that OuterBox values family, and promotes it over work. You come first, and that's why this place is awesome.
Cons
OuterBox has few flaws, but flaws are constructivly taken by management and not shamed onto those who mention them. The first flaw is that we're behind times in the parental leave department, not offering additional PTO for expecting parents, this is something I anticipate to change in the future. Upper management sometimes feels disconnected from your average employee. I have heard from others at the company that they feel disliked by their managers and I can say I disagree, Justin, Jason and Nick most certainly do not hate you. I believe this stems from the disconnection in not engaging on individual level basis, though they do great with team communication and team building. Upper management can feel intimidating to talk to about professional well-being, and goal setting though, direct managers are amazing at helping you through whatever it is you're facing. The last con is that 'base' pay is not the best for starting strategists or even specialists, though I do know the company will work with you and what you value as your worth. I am a testament to this, ask and prove yourself. If you deserve you shall receive.
