Pros

Outreach as a company has a ton of potential. Good product market fit, experienced leadership, great talents, but overall turns out to be a really tough place to work.

Cons

Leadership, all the way down from the CEO, encourages a culture of arrogance. Outreach's product is better than the competitors but rather than speaking to our products strengths, leadership will make ad hominem attacks on the competitor (as if no one can do anything better than Outreach). Benefits are poor for the industry, and keep getting worse. When I started a 401k match "was being discussed" but it's still not offered. Health coverage continues to get more and more expensive every year, and little more is offered from a benefits package. The Outreach product, while being the market leader, has so many issues making it incredibly hard to work with customers and keep them happy. This fails to be recognized or fixed. Rapid growth led to rapid hiring and filling vacancies with subpar talent. Middle management is not just bad, it's abysmal. Micromanagement is rampant and there is little to no recognition for good work. Finally, the company practices an odd form of idol worship with the CEO despite rarely hearing from him outside of a weekly company wide email with little substance and prerecorded videos of him. It's super strange. There are many other challenges and cultural issues, but these are the most pervasive and off putting.

Toxic Leadership

Pros

-Smart, scrappy people with demonstrable passion for the product and the company

Cons

-Executive leadership is incredibly toxic - there is no clear long term vision for the company or the product, and execs are more interested in building out/ protecting their own domains than working cross functionally to solve problems. -While every start up has issues of randomization, executive leadership actively contributes to this dysfunction by changing direction every week with little to no follow through or accountability. -The brunt of the issues above fall on ICs to pick up the slack, leading to rapid employee turnover and overwhelming burnout.

All that glitters isn't gold

Pros

The people at Outreach are fun, genuine, and smart. There are a lot of complex engineering problems to tackle as the business scales.

Cons

Filter Glassdoor reviews by Engineering or Product; how many reviews do you see? Probably not a lot. There is no clear long term strategy articulated by leadership. Quarterly priorities from the bottom don't map to top-down goals from leadership in any noticeable way. Engineers and Product Managers are spread thin and overworked. Morale has been worsening due to shifting priorities, lack of processes, and the constant barrage of incidents (look at status dot outreach dot io to see what I mean). You will more likely than naught deal with tech debt or untangling the decisions made by folks years ago than working on bleeding-edge features. A lot of hiring recently has been from big companies like Microsoft, and Amazon, so the culture has morphed and is becoming less collaborative and more political/adversarial.
