Disappointing Decline of a Once Great Startup

Pros

Unlimited PTO and good work life balance. If you’re looking to take it easy rather than make a significant impact, this might be the place for you.

Cons

- Don't be fooled by the recent positive reviews—many of them are fake. - Most of Ovia's original founders have left, and it no longer has the same startup vibe. - Over the past couple of years, LabCorp, Ovia's parent company, hasn’t invested any significant resources. There have been no promotions, clear career paths, or replacements for departing staff. It's halfway through the year, and there still hasn’t been a merit raise. - LabCorp has no clear development plan for Ovia and doesn't prioritize it enough. - LabCorp itself is a bureaucratic company with no real tech vision. It's unlikely these issues will improve anytime soon. I strongly advise against working here.

Pros

Flexible schedule, opportunity to be remote

Cons

Don't be fooled by the window dressing statements. The company has extremely aggressive culture with little respect for personal time. You will be expected to work all hours of the day. It's an Amazon type culture, minus the pay

Thanks for your feedback! It is important to us to grow and improve each day in order to be a great place to work for our employees! Since February: - Our new, dedicated HR person has been fully ramped up. - We have completed a set of salary bands that inform all pay decisions (internally and for new hires) to ensure that compensation is equitable across the organization. While we cannot compete on pay with the Amazons and Facebooks of the world, we pay fairly and offer many other opportunities for growth and development. - We have made sure our promotion and advancement process is finalized and transparent, and several employees have been moved into higher roles. - Our leadership team has worked closely with the CEO to solidify our 2019 goals and have trickled them down to the divisional level so that each team and individual knows what is most important and how they can contribute to it. Additionally, half-yearly planning summits for the CEO and leadership team are now fully implemented and the outcomes of these events are tactfully rolled out company-wide. - We have put several processes and systems into place to increase company-wide transparency and reduce the need for speculation. We are excited about the growth we've seen within the organization throughout 2019, and continue to maintain an ongoing, open feedback loop to make sure we are meeting everyone's needs!
