Pros

Very interesting work (if you are in the right group and working for a good Group Lead). Legendary family picnic and many opportunities for your family to see what you do. Advice: Get all you can up-front because your next opportunity may not come before you are gone...

Cons

Minimal to no advancement opportunities and very low pay for engineers.

Pros

PACCAR is a stable company and if you position yourself well you can work on some pretty interesting projects. The EPA continues to tighten emissions regulations and so the trucking industry is always re-designing engines systems to meet new regulations. Although it can be tedious this work is super stable, e.g. they can't sell trucks after certain dates unless they re-design for the regulations.

Cons

The culture is a bit dated. When I worked there telecommuting was not a realistic option as management seems more concerned with seat time than results. Also, engineering work can be largely dependent on a CAD system that is (or at least was) slow and subject to frequent crashes. This wasn't a huge deal but could be frustrating.

Pros

Good group of people you work with. Don't have to take the job home with you.

Cons

Terrible pay. Plant workers without college education make considerably more money than engineers. Cost of health care benefits is always going up with less coverage.
