Pros

It's fun to see the trucks you helped design rolling down the freeway in the lane next to you. Excellent brand recognition. Stable and profitable company. This company sits in a comfortable niche and is great at selling the products they produce.

Cons

Not a place where people feel comfortable expressing themselves. In over two years I never met a single (openly) gay colleague. People are very cautious about what they say within these walls. Self-destructive, cold-blooded (or paranoid?): I saw this company fire two good/loyal engineers for utterly ridiculous reasons in 2010. I remember management once "requiring" my entire dev team (group of 40ish design engineers) to work 50 hour weeks for a special "push" with no extra compensation other than free soda. That's when I knew I had to get out of there.

Pros

Great pay if you came in with previos experience and can negotiate, depending on you expertise. You can work 8today and skate if you give up on promotions. The only stress I have is self induced as a result of having personal career goals, and wanting to be copied on necessary information by management.

Cons

Appears to be a career ender for certain disciplines. You have to fit in with managements philosophy, and they don't like big 3 guy mentality people, as we move too fast, and express our opinion more, and expect to do more also. 2 weeks vaca is non neg. No matter on your experience. If they really want you, things will be phrased so they lure you....know what specific questions to ask before accepting.

Pros

PACCAR is a stable, growing company. From the perspective of strategy and financial growth, the company is great. For some selected employees, PACCAR heavily emphasizes on promoting from within.

Cons

PACCAR's culture is extremely conservative, and has the "good ole boys" mentality. Mark Piggot AKA "The Chairman" has ran this company successfully with his strong team of executive talent. However, the company truly under-appreciates those below the executive level. The company advertises itself as to being "lean" in expenses and pays non-executives below market value while expecting them to work a ton of hours. However, executives are compensated well above market value. The "Chairman" has good and bad days and the employees run around in fear of running into him on a "bad day." There are many "unwritten" PACCAR rules such as requiring everyone to wear a suit daily, for the ladies not wearing open-toed shoes and always wearing pantyhose (even on the hot days), not using the elevator if you are going up or down two flights and not crossing the street to grab Starbucks during working hours.
