Pros

Benefits, earning potential, 401k, new technology including digital X-rays and chart less documentation

Cons

Though their philosophy is "patients for life", it's mainly about numbers, numbers, numbers. Each dentist will have at minimum an eleven page metric report each month. It basically measures how crappy you are compared to the top 20% of all the doctors including the owner doctors. The top twenty percent are praised over and over about how great they are. However, one has to question these doctor's ethics. Once again, the bottom line is how much you make or refer for the owner doctor and PDS. Most owner doctors, don't reveal any appreciation and only show dissatisfaction if you are not making them enough money for profit checks.

We thank you for your detailed review and appreciate your suggestions. We agree that all members of the team are responsible for keeping patients-for-life at all PDS supported practices. We also agree that appreciating employees and recognizing personal events – like anniversaries – is crucial to achieving unity and encouragement. That being said, we will definitely pass your feedback along to our leadership team. Thank you again.

Pros

Free coffee, dental benefits are pretty good after 13+ months of employment, however when you ask to use your benefits you get a guilt trip because you are taking up time that they could be making $$$$ with their dishonest tactics with patients and insurance companies. Or you even get push back when trying to ask for a vacation months in advance.

Cons

The training they provide is a joke. They have one person who is the regional trainer for multiple states for my position(which is the case for most positions in this company.) Training classes consisted of listening to the individual go on about their personal life as well as giving us information that didn't match the teachings of our (outdated) modules. Operations Managers are thrown into an office with NO training and most times with NO dental background. They mainly look for individuals with retail experience because you have been trained to up sell product and persuading others to purchase product. What does this tell you?!? This company does not care at all about their employees. EVERYTHING falls onto the Operations Manager. Employees and Dentists (Yes, even OWNER dentists) are constantly belittled and have no say on anything! If you are not producing the goals THEY set, you as well as the region are emailed 10+ emails DAILY about how your office is failing. They don't coach people on how to fix problems they tell you to figure it out and if you don't you are gone. But before they fire you they try to get you to quit by making you feel worthless, (seen first hand.) Advice to patients READ EVERYTHING YOU SIGN!! They overcharge everything even if you have insurance. We are taught to charge a certain fee even if we are contracted with your insurance to charge a MUCH lower rate. They get away with this because of what they have you sign. And you will probably notice you need 0 fillings but 8 crowns with 2 onlays... this is yet another dishonest thing they constantly push for.

Pros

They do have numberous benefits, from health to legal plans. The newer built offices are modern and clean.

Cons

So much micromanagment of every mundane little thing in the dental office. Turn over of key providers, in two years at this company between two diffent offices I went through seven different doctors. The staff hired to work in managment and the front office had little to no experience in a dental enviroment. The office managers were in meetings almost daily with my receptionist left to answer phones, call insurance, present treatment plans, plus everything else she was expected to do on her own. When I was hired I was told that I would have to meet production goals which I understand. Hygienists get paid well and of course need to produce to make money for the office. The problem is that the system is set up to fail, at least in Texas. Under the HMO/DMO plans production was done at little to $0.00 dollars. If half your schedule is not making money and the hygienist does not get credit for x-rays, which we did take plenty of since there usually was only one dental assistant. I never reached my goals, I was told when hired I would have help to improve my numbers and this never happened. The dentists had speech coaches who would come in to listen to their tx plan explainations and then have pointers after to improve what they said. In two years I was never offered a true consult with this person. I was a hard worker who brought in patients who followed me from my last practice, friends from church, neighbors, etc... but this did not mean a thing to my managment. I was fired with the explaination that I was not having a good relationship with my dentist (#7, and he was about to move away in another month) and of course this reflected on my shortage of perio patients he was supposed to be feeding my way. There was so much pressure on the staff to produce a profit in less than 6 mths of opening the front doors. What business makes a profit that quickly with that much overhead?
