Pros
Not sure their are ANY pros. Let's see, they have a CIO who comes and goes every other year. I think he's on his twelfth visit. So one + is certain people are allowed to come and go as they please as they get "found out" at other institutions silly enough to hire them, then the institutions regret their decision. There are some very bright people there; which makes one wonder why they are still there. Of course those "bright" people would get eaten alive at companies in Dallas or northern Tarrant county. IF you want to learn office politics, there is perhaps no other business in the United States that offers the cut throat, disguised as (and rewarded as) "team work" culture. There are "Michael Jordans" there who will stab you in the back while simultaneously smiling to your face. IF you want to learn the world of competitive climbing over colleagues to "get ahead", PDX is THE place to learn such. They have their own pharmacy just for employees which is awesome the 17 hours per week it's open. Of course since all employees "work from home", the employees must drive in to the pharmacy to get Rx's filled. Software developers, testers, and (female) designers can take 2nd full time jobs as the most they have to put in is 5 hours per week to keep up. And some actually do take second full time jobs.
Cons
To say management is terrible, incompetent, and couldn't care less is an absolute compliment to management. Women, who have zero business being employed anywhere pretty much run the place. Cross them and you're done there (which is actually a blessing). Get them griping and you'll never hear the end of it. Get them griping at each other and you'll have entertainment for years to come. Even their 401k matching sucks compared to most companies. Health insurance? A joke compared to most companies. H-1B? Yes, it's a great place to earn $37k / year. Kind of a remote location compared to the normal Westlake / Southlake area of concentrated software development in Tarrant County. Teamwork is virtually non-existent due to office politics. Go to other institutions that implement software correctly in a true agile environment and it's extremely eye opening. Then again, other organizations don't have women "running the show" for personal gain. Covert, subtle, very well disguised racism. Still working on that time sheet system - some 40 years later. They'll figure it out soon, I have confidence in them. Until them, make sure you read your four daily emails about entering your time!
