Really look at the theme of negative reviews here

Pros

Similar to what a lot of people have mentioned about the office. Really large office space, kitchen, building, etc.

Cons

If you look at all the negative reviews, you'll see a recurring theme about management. This is sadly true. There is a lack of respect for employees, and you are continuously viewed as an asset or a liability. The money is sub par compared to industry peers, but it's really the culture that drives talented people away. Accept with a grain of salt whatever the company says. They will stick to their bread and butter trading strategies and the same managers will be in their positions for years to come. Also very little career opportunities since many ventures started by the company shut down soon.

Thanks for posting – sorry to hear you didn’t have the most positive experience at PEAK6. I’m particularly disheartened to hear you feel there’s a lack of respect for employees. We work hard to create a culture where every employee is given the freedom to share their ideas and make meaningful contributions to the business. We also look for unique opportunities to diversify our approach both as a trading firm and as a business. Our goal is that these new businesses can serve as opportunities for employees to expand their responsibilities and grow their careers at PEAK6. Sorry to hear that this wasn’t your perception of how we operate. I hope you found a firm that is a good fit for you. And, if you have other ideas or feedback, I’d be interested in hearing them. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at jkunreuther@peak6.com. -Jason Kunreuther

Pros

Variety of work - you'll end up wearing nine different hats which results in a variety of different tasks. You'll also work with many different teams which keeps things interesting. There is free coffee and snacks The people are nice.

Cons

There are too many middle managers and not enough individual contributors They pay men more than women for the same role They require 3 days in-office even if your commute is extensive (wouldn't recommend PEAK6 for anyone with children or hoping to have children) Executive leadership lacks strategic vision which often causes chaos/disorganization Their health insurance isn't great

CMO Ran the Department Into the Ground

Pros

Great salary and benefits. Great potential to do interesting and exciting work. There were moments of the autonomy and creative encouragement promised and pitched during the interview process. Those moments were incredible. Those moments were fleeting. Great place for traders and tech.

Cons

Chief Marketing Officer was difficult to work with. Poor communicator, chip on her shoulder, maybe a fear of being exposed as a fraud fueled this difficulty. She could not lead her team or see the value in leveraging the talent of the marketing department to benefit the firm's vast business opportunities. As such, investments struggled, suffered and failed under her watch, layoffs ensued, and ultimately, the department was gutted. Those remaining were (thankfully) absorbed into other businesses owned by PEAK6. A huge opportunity was lost. CMO seemed more interested in fudging metrics to excuse her failure in leadership and marketing strategy than utilizing the talent on her team. Poor communication throughout organization, from leadership on down. Lots of he-say-she-say in project direction, and in the case of employee performance. Felt, at times, more like a catty high school cafeteria than a successful trading and investment firm. Otherwise, there were some good, fun people who worked there. It's a great trading and tech firm. Not a good place for marketing professionals.
