Really look at the theme of negative reviews here

Pros

Similar to what a lot of people have mentioned about the office. Really large office space, kitchen, building, etc.

Cons

If you look at all the negative reviews, you'll see a recurring theme about management. This is sadly true. There is a lack of respect for employees, and you are continuously viewed as an asset or a liability. The money is sub par compared to industry peers, but it's really the culture that drives talented people away. Accept with a grain of salt whatever the company says. They will stick to their bread and butter trading strategies and the same managers will be in their positions for years to come. Also very little career opportunities since many ventures started by the company shut down soon.

Thanks for posting – sorry to hear you didn’t have the most positive experience at PEAK6. I’m particularly disheartened to hear you feel there’s a lack of respect for employees. We work hard to create a culture where every employee is given the freedom to share their ideas and make meaningful contributions to the business. We also look for unique opportunities to diversify our approach both as a trading firm and as a business. Our goal is that these new businesses can serve as opportunities for employees to expand their responsibilities and grow their careers at PEAK6. Sorry to hear that this wasn’t your perception of how we operate. I hope you found a firm that is a good fit for you. And, if you have other ideas or feedback, I’d be interested in hearing them. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at jkunreuther@peak6.com. -Jason Kunreuther

Data-Driven=Micromanage

Pros

Good Salary, cool snacks, unique office space

Cons

Beware- "data-driven" = Micromanage. Revolving door at manager level. Arbitrarily appoint people management positions because of company tenure, NOT based on skill or background, creating an uneasy atmosphere of more jr. people managing more qualified employees. Terrible tech bottleneck, no clear technical direction, developers are always pissed their work gets scrapped on a whim when a partner changes their mind. Arrogantly/foolishly have a 6 month non-compete because, according to the tech leader, "our environment is so proprietary that after 6 months no one will be able to hurt us." Multiple failed ventures (Cardbucks, Bottlenotes, Achievement Asset Management) that pull employees out of their team and leaves the rest of the team to fill the gap and do the extra work. If you didn't start with them a while back or you're not connected to a major player there, you don't have a long future here.

I’m genuinely sorry to hear that you had such a negative experience at PEAK6. It’s especially discouraging to hear that you feel you were micromanaged and that we weren’t thoughtful around providing transparency behind staffing decisions. As an entrepreneurial firm, we are continually seeking new ideas and investment opportunities to diversify our businesses. It’s very much a part of our plan and our goal is that these new businesses can serve as opportunities for employees to expand their responsibilities and get exposure to new learning. Sorry to hear that this wasn’t your perception of how things go at PEAK6. We certainly want to see employees thrive, grow and develop and be happy when they come to work. In our experience, successful employees at PEAK6 tend to be proactive, ambitious and accountable, and openly communicate — especially when they encounter issues. If you have time, I would greatly appreciate hearing your thoughts on how we can improve and any actions you feel we should take to improve our culture. Feel free to email me at any time at rpratt@peak6.com. Thanks, Ryan Pratt

Thanks for taking a moment to review your experience at PEAK6! We’ve put a lot of effort into giving new hires lots of changes to grow and develop, so really glad to hear you think we’re a good fit for college graduates. Of course, not as glad to hear that you feel work life balance isn’t ideal. We certainly have a fast paced environment, but our goal is to make sure everyone has down time. If you have thoughts on how to improve work life balance, please reach out to me. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks Ryan Pratt
