Needs to Improve

Pros

Small firm culture means that you get to work on some pretty cool projects and jump into things you wouldn’t have the chance to at other places. Office space is awesome. Free food, great parties & events. You get the chance to work with some really smart people.

Cons

The negative comments in other reviews are basically all true. Feedback/direction from leadership is all over the place, and it’s usually conflicting. Put this along with micromanagement at both the management and leadership levels and it can be very frustrating to get things done. There is a lack of respect for employees, and the general message is that anyone/everyone is replaceable. But probably the worst part is that this feedback has been given to managers/leadership for years now, and nothing ever changes and bad managers are not held accountable.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. I’m glad to hear you find that you have opportunity at PEAK6. As a small, entrepreneurial firm, we want our culture to be one where every employee has an opportunity to grow, develop and try new things. So I’m glad to hear that you experienced that while here. Of course, I’m disheartened to hear that you feel there was a lack of respect for employees. I do appreciate your points about a lack of feedback and communication – those are both are areas we continue to strive to improve. If you would like to share more about how you think we can be better there, I’d be very interested in hearing your ideas. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at jkunreuther@peak6.com. -Jason

Horrible company for new grads and interns

Pros

Free food in the office. Easy to get to via public transportation. You can have as many computer monitors as you would like for your desk which helps block out some privacy between you and everyone else sitting in the open workspace.

Cons

Simply put, Peak6 is the absolute worst job decision a new graduate can make coming out of collage. They don't offer anything close to a career path, and in most cases they simply throw their new hires into high stress roles with little training and low pay, asking them to work extremely long hours with no real work/life balance. Employees are micromanaged as if they were children who can't think at all on their own, and they are given the most mindless tasks to do until they end up leaving the company, which almost all new employees do once they realize how terrible their prospects for advancing here are. We also run internship programs, which on the surface seem great but what our leadership conveniently forgets to tell people is that almost no one gets hired from the internship program and because of HR regulations we don't even provide references to those that participate in the internship program and don't get hired. Even better, the actual employees like me have to sit here and watch the interns get fawned over while we - the real employees - are bacially ignored and treated as second class citizens. My advice to new grads and students considering joining this company is to please please please look elsewhere so you don't end up making the same mistake that I and most other people working here made. You have good degrees from great schools, go look for jobs at real companies that actually know how to develop their talent and provide career pathing and fair pay.

I appreciate your feedback, especially given how your experience hasn’t been a positive one. It’s disheartening to hear that you don’t see opportunities for growth or feel that you weren’t given the freedom to explore your own ideas. We certainly want to see employees — especially new graduates — grow, develop, thrive, and be happy when they come to work. In our experience, employees who are engaged and feel part of the culture are happier and experience more growth. If that’s not been your experience, I encourage you to reach out and talk to someone. We’d rather learn from your experience than have you be unhappy each day. We’re always interested in learning how we can be better. And if you don’t feel comfortable talking to HR or me, perhaps you can talk to a peer or someone on your team. Obviously, we saw great potential in you and we want to do everything we can to help you thrive here. If you’d be willing to share your feedback with me, I’d like to hear more about your experience here. You can reach out to me directly at jkunreuther@peak6.com. Jason Kunreuther

Better Culture than some of these reviews

Pros

Individuals are encouraged to improve their skill set. Complacency is frowned upon. When something is working it does mean PEAK6 will not strive to improve in the area

Cons

I have worked at more investment firms then most employees at PEAK6 and I do not agree with most of the negative comments. management has been working on being more transparent in goals and policies. This may not be the firm for someone who wants to get comfortable with daily routine.I find the work life balance to be fine, especially compared to firms where you must struggle to stay one step ahead of disaster.
