Peak6 maintains a very innovative environment and a culture that encourages personal growth. Working here has given me the opportunity to challenge myself and learn new skills that I previously had not been exposed to.

Pros

Mostly speaking about the tech side There are typically interesting problems and the work is stimulating The firm is willing to invest in growing people The firm adapts and pivots in response to business needs well, making for a very dynamic environment Hard work is recognized People are given ownership and accountability, and trust to find the right solution Always open to ideas and discussions about change They definitely care about getting people that have a strong culture fit, not just someone that has the credentials or resume Tech team has a decent culture, often fun and lively Can-do attitude taken to solving problems and working through rough spots

Cons

Tech could probably benefit from more work that is strategically planned and less that is reactive The lack of structure and lean style can be freeing, but can also backfire and make work difficult Tech and trading could probably be somewhat better aligned, but this appears to be improving

It’s especially good to hear that you feel that we value growth and development because it’s something that’s very important to the firm, not just in tech but for everyone at PEAK6. It’s also good to hear that you value our ability to respond to business challenges. That is one of the more difficult things to manage in a fast-paced industry like ours and it’s something that we feel we do well. We are definitely trying to provide more transparency on how we’re making decisions and involving as many people as we can in those decisions. Pros

good atmosphere, professional, not a lot of BS, very fair.

Cons

technology bottlenecks, bringing ideas that you think can help the firm but require any technological effort are not appreciated or ignored.

Our goal is definitely to create an environment where everyone can contribute to our efforts and the business. We know we still have some work to do here. We’d really value your insights & we do definitely want to hear your ideas. As discussed more recently in our monthly company all hands meetings we make a conscious decision to not work on every tech idea we have. We want to run lean and efficient and that requires prioritizing where we spend our resources. So although our goal is to create an environment where everyone can contribute ideas in reality only the cream of the crop often make it to development. We’d really value your insights & we do definitely want to hear your ideas and most importantly how they could add value over the longer term. Given this information perhaps we will work on your ideas next. In addition we would love to hear any feedback on how we can our prioritization process more transparent.
