      Trying to create great culture

      Pros

      General employee population is made up of great people. There is a lot of effort around creating a great culture - you have to feel good about a company that cares so much about trying to create a great place to work everyday. You feel challenged on a day to day basis. By nature of the business and the way we run so lean, each and every person carries a lot of responsibility.

      Cons

      It's unfortunate that in a company of less than 200 people, there are people who don't know each other. Perks are really nice, but perks don't create culture. Creating a great culture has to start with the Leadership. While you may feel challenged on a day to day basis, don't come to PEAK6 if you need to hear "good job" or get a pat on the back - this is not the place for that.

      Thank you for the feedback. You hit on a lot of interesting facets of PEAK6. I’m glad to hear that you feel challenged and that it’s clear we want PEAK6 to have a great culture and be an amazing place to work I’m also interested to hear your thoughts that a couple of other people have touched on around how we should do more to create opportunities for people to get to know one another. We have done some work here across teams, but haven’t really focused on leaders getting to know everyone across the firm in the way you outline. As the firm grows and we expand efforts into multiple areas, we need to think through the best way to do this. Certainly for leaders in Capman, who are focused on the trading business, they need to be connected with the broader team.       I like the vast majority of the people I work with. I am challenged every day.

      Cons

      Pay is low. Despite sitting very close to so many people, I don't know many of them.

      I’m glad to hear that you feel that you’re challenged and you find the work rewarding. I’m interested to hear your feedback on people not knowing each other. I’m not sure if you were at Andy Stefanovich’s talk last year. As he started asking questions to employees in the room, he hit on a similar theme around how everyone doesn’t know each other well enough. As the firm has grown we have new people in various areas and haven’t focused enough on cross-team interaction. We created a dedicated Culture Team out of these discussions, and that team looked at how to build stronger connections across all groups with some initial steps.       Great company, great place to be

      Pros

      If you are looking for a company where you can learn a lot, be consistently challenged, and really enjoy what you do, PEAK6 is the place for you. The communicative and collaborative environment lends itself to everyone teaching and learning every day you come to work. The leaders are always willing to tackle interesting ideas and help guide and drive people to achieve difficult goals.

      Cons

      If you don't like to try your best and work hard, you shouldn't consider PEAK6. Expectations are high for level of effort. This isn't a con unless you don't like to work hard though.
