Pros

They somehow find and manage to hire really great staff

Cons

Approaching your HR Representative is an exercise in futility. They answer to the same incompetent upper management. Do not believe for an instance that HR will be able to make any difference whatsoever. You can be a shining star one day and the next be shown the door. Your only security is to have your next opportunity in your back pocket. As long as you continue to show you are ready to leave, they will bend over backwards to keep you. The minute you show any sort of loyalty and desire to stay, you are toast. Don't assume team work, initiative, diligence, or participation in their "community outreach (to 'give back')" will mean anything AT ALL to management, it does not. Also their "Strategic Intents" are great talking points during the hiring process and probably attractive during job fairs, but otherwise those are absolutely meaningless, especially the "destination employer" intent.

Pros

401k matching with no vesting period, but the matching is pretty low compared to Navy Federal. They subsidize healthcare so it costs very little for a minimal plan. Decent educational benefit (up to 75% of tuition!) if you are willing to sell your soul. You will meet a few folks (worker bees as others have put) who will be some of the best humans you ever met--they will inspire you with their stories and you will enjoy making their acquaintance.

Cons

I have never in my life worked for such an incompetent, disorganized, and above all things, unprofessional (toxic) organization. Only come here if you think being humiliated and mocked in front of colleagues and third party vendors is fun or "motivating you to do your best," or as another reviewer stated, if you are facing homelessness. If you believe in professionalism and respect in the workplace, run as far away as you can if you get a job offer; I know I wish I had....

Pros

Great people at the lower levels, made many lasting friendships. Direct managers in operations were wonderful.

Cons

Several newer executives couldn't care less about how their decisions to change the structure of the company affected people's lives. All promotional opportunities were stripped from entry-level employees and several positions were simply eliminated with no notice. People were advised that they were more likely to promote if they quit, then were re-hired into the new position. Many underhanded decisions were made and much of the truth was held back from employees. All evaluations of employees were based on Net Promoter Score (NPS), which was a score of clients' likelihood to promote PenFed to their friends. If only the COO who instituted could be told that their job depended on whether their employees approved of them. I think the decision to place one's future employment at the company on one small aspect would change rather quickly. One of the goals was to become a "destination employer," but I wouldn't recommend my worst enemy work at PenFed.
