Don’t be fooled, from a former Store Manager
Pros
Good benefits and great 401K. The people that really care are excellent people to be around and learn from. Almost always busy; the world needs paint and there’s always something going on. If you have the will to work hard and deliver customer service and train your people the right way, you can succeed. It has to come from you.
Cons
Horrible upper management. HR is a joke in that they always seem to find the small print and only care about the company instead of showing any human compassion. Long brutal hours with almost no help from upper management, very very very poor pay for the work you do (even if you have a college degree and went through the management training program) you are payed the same as someone who hasn’t. Promotions are not always earned, instead of given to the “favored” and the ones that truly need help are always being targeted or not given as much as help as others because their numbers don’t warrant it. Upper management only cares about numbers, not employees who put their blood, sweat, and tears into their work. A lot of backstabbing, developing toxic attitudes and no trust between upper management and other managers. DO NOT BE HONEST when asked, they will use it against you. When trying to transfer to other markets to further career, I was “blacklisted” because I was trying to leaving the market and looked as someone who “didn’t care about my position” because I was trying to leave. Raises do not come by based on performance, only if you transfer or take a different job title. New hires with little to no experience sometimes make more money and are usually gone soon after hiring, while the seasoned employees have to work harder to clean up after them, and for less pay. Will put you in PIP/suspension for things completely out of your control.
