Pros

The pay is solid, and if you’re lucky, you might get to work with the few teammates who haven’t jumped ship yet. They’re smart, supportive, and probably wondering why they’re still here too.

Cons

Turnover this year has been extreme. The return-to-office mandate has left remote-eligible team members feeling uncertain and undervalued. We recently lost another top-performing, highly knowledgeable colleague who was a key resource for the team. Work-life balance is virtually nonexistent. The Site Reliability Engineering team consistently pushes initiatives that add little to no value, and the Development Excellence Team has caused multiple production outages by implementing policy changes without proper communication to impacted teams. Overall, the environment feels chaotic, reactive, and unsupportive.

Pros

Company previously cared about employees, but is now focused on earnings. In turn, we tend to get better bonuses now.

Cons

I’ve been at this company for almost 12 years and the culture shift is staggering. I originally wanted to work for Pacific Life because my mother and family friend had worked there for 15+ years in the Aliso location. My first 5 years I really felt the company cared about its customers and employees as priority one and with the new management that’s simply not the case anymore. There is so much lip service from upper management that their decisions are made with the interests of “people” in mind but they only care about the bottom line. The worst offense is the new return to office they’re labeling as “hybrid” by forcing everyone back in four days a week, even people that were hired as remote. The interesting part is that a few special employees and all the upper management seem to be exempt from this rule and can work remotely. Most in the office understand these were forced layoffs under the guise of being “better together”. We previously had a hybrid model of 2-3 days in office and were told the company has had incredible results over the years, so the only reason to force people in 4 days a week is completely superficial when it only applies to workers and not executives. I’ve seen many colleagues and friends that have been with the company as long as I have that were forced out and celebrated as “early retirement”. This was not the company I knew from when I was hired and I would not recommend this new regime of management. I stay with the company as I’ve made good money and since profits are the only thing that seemingly matters anymore.
