Pros

Usually fast-paced. Discount on food. Two weeks training, got to taste many things! Delicious bread loaves. Friendly managers and coworkers. Flexible schedule as long as you let them know in advance.

Cons

Understaffed too often, too difficult to keep up during rush times and expected to handle too many duties. Not enough cleanliness-- food handling was proper, but the dining area was not great in places. And often we're too busy to deal with it. Especially the carpet. One manager reduced hours without telling staff the reason "until we get what we need to fix about our behavior". Which to be fair, you shouldnt need to remind staff of the rules, but it sucks for people who are genuinely trying and dont know why their hours are whack. Managers seemed to be overworked just like us many times.

Pros

Great teammates, culture, committees, opportunities to get involved with various groups

Cons

Great team to join to gain experience and expand your skill set as you figure out where your career will lead. Management will squeeze all they can out of you and your teams. If you give your all you can climb the corporate ladder. If you dont have a family or hobbies, this might be the management team for you. After-hours work for management is essentially required just to handle the workload. Not the typical, "use the evenings to catch up on emails, plan my day for tomorrow", but rather, use your evenings and weekends to keep your head above water. Plenty of hourly workers that are "lifers" who have been at Panera for ages, showing up to get their 8 hours in and leave. If they are on your team, good luck reprimanding them or expecting more out of their day. It's as if they are grandfathered into some laid-back workload while new, skilled, younger employees are expected to take on the bulk of the work. Unfair distribution of work among lower level employees will keep the turnover high. Managing that is a nightmare.
