Pros

Coworkers. My direct team and leader are great, smart, caring and wonderful people! Good benefits - like sabbaticals, wellness days etc Ability to work remotely or in the office. Meaningful work.

Cons

Low compensation for tasks/performance. The salary for top performers who have worked at PayPal for years is lower than the starting pay for equivalent roles at other companies. No recent cost of living increases to account for inflation. Year end performance bonuses are primarily given in the form of RSUs with a 3 year vesting schedule. So you won't see a penny for a year and will lose it if you leave before it vests. Poor senior leadership. Frequent re-orgs. No transparency. Executive leadership preaches about core values but their actions directly contradict them. Many in senior and executive leadership roles seem under qualified for their position, lack the appropriate knowledge and communicate poorly.

Pros

Majority of employees are inspired by the vision to democratize financial services for the underserved. Flexible work arrangements and good benefits.

Cons

Very political - promotions and opportunities are given to the well connected and well known rather than the most qualified. Extremely slow moving - Company can’t seem to get out of their own way. Poor organizational design and lack of strategy makes it impossible to get anything done. Everyday is a constant struggle to get simple things done. Poor leadership and management - Leaders lack expertise in organizational design and strategy so instead spend most of their time micromanaging technical decisions and creating time consuming operational rhythms and unproductive meetings. Makes it impossible to empower SME’s and product teams to innovate. Product and engineering instead spend most of their time catching up with innovative solutions from competitors or tech debt.
