I've been at Peek for quite some time now, and what has kept me here all of these years is the brilliant people, incredible culture (that is now reinventing itself in the remote-first COVID world), industry-leading product and fast-moving environment. Moreover, I continue to respect and be inspired by our founders, who genuinely care about their people, and about making a difference for our partners.
The 2020 COVID pandemic tested every single element of our company, people and culture. We saw revenue briefly go to zero, were forced to quickly make numerous incredibly painful personnel decisions, and dozens of folks on our team had to jump into triage mode to help our thousands of tours, activities and rentals partners navigate these unchartered waters. We were truly put to the test, and I couldn't be more proud of how everyone responded. It was so inspirational to witness so many of our team members jump in to help, work tirelessly to provide support and guidance to our partners during their time of crisis, and push themselves to new limits in order to keep up with the ever-changing circumstances that this pandemic thrust upon us.
Thankfully our headwinds turned into tailwinds and a V-shaped recovery driven by outdoor experiences surprisingly led to our best summer yet. Still, I'll never forget how impressed I was/am at how our people responded when faced with this once-in-a-lifetime crisis. They were thrown into the fire, and came out so much stronger because of it. The collective energy I feel heading into 2021 is palpable; I am confident it's going to be our best year yet.
Cons
Like most growth-stage companies, the environment is incredibly fast-paced and we still have many parts of our business that are actively being iterated upon. That environment isn't for everyone, but I have personally found it to be very empowering and I've enjoyed the challenge of shaping our direction in a meaningful way, many times over.
