Pros

Everyone is excited to work for Penn State. The overall morale of the employees as a whole is wonderful and I truly feel motivated that I get to work for PSU in this capacity. The benefits are wonderful: health insurance is great, dental and eye coverage is great, PTO is amazing, and other benefits are lovely. For the most part, most employees are pleasant and interested in their work and at the heart of their job have patient care and satisfaction in mind.

Cons

Opportunity to advance is limited because of the inside politics - it's a game of who-knows-who. This is detrimental to those who enter on a base level because of experience but then are looking to advance because of education or interest in another department. There should be a bigger drive to promote from within based on merit and education, not just connections and politics. Pay, based on your position, isn't always equal to your position. There are several positions that are underpaid but overworked. This is also dependent on department.

Pros

If you like small town work environment, then Hershey is a place to go and not that far away from big cities. And no or low traffic to work

Cons

You need to have a good boss who knows and cares what you are doing. Make sure you have the financial support you need for the term before come. If not, it is hard to find a job without moving in such small town.

Pros

Very supportive, kind and caring individuals and staff. Big egos simply do not exist or have a place here. Throwing your weight around and being overly bossy is looked down upon. The hospital solely and truly exists for achieving quality patient care and delivering the best possible outcome with not only the patient's best interest in mind, but the family as well. An environment that truly fosters individual excellence, innovation, and research.

Cons

Management recognizes potential and effort and rewards success with praise, but needs to work better with HR on providing these opportunities so that talented individuals are retained in the institution. Needs to play catch-up with some of the bigger medical centers (penn, upmc, hopkins, etc.) but is slowly getting there in terms of the new health care reform, but the culture of Central PA hampers this.
