Pros

CEO is accessible, has a good vision and is brilliant. He could probably do my job better then I can. You work with great and smart people. The company is still fairly small, and you work with people around the world. The job is 100% work from home.

Cons

Note: much of this is about the nature of the job, and not a knock on the company. Working remote can be isolating. Most of your co-workers you'll never meet in person. You don't get the same camaraderie as a in person team. If you are used to working on an in-house team, changing to an external support/consulting gig takes some adjustment.

Sustaining the opensource community

Pros

Percona takes a different approach to opensource software that creates a virtuous relationship with the opensource community. The value provided by the services and software is exactly aligned with the reasons people and companies create and sustain opensource. And the founders embody these values at the core of who they are. As a result, the entire company is aligned around the same goals.

Cons

Working with completely distributed colleagues across timezones was a stress on my work/life boundaries, and it was difficult or impossible to keep that in balance at times. Sometimes management can be a bit "shoot from the hip." The founders are towering geniuses that aren't always fully aware of how exceptional their abilities are, and can set expectations that others are unable to meet.
