Petsmart employee discount good when you have pets, products are still ridiculously overpriced.

I have worked for Petsmart for close to 4 years, Until recently this has been the best large scale corporation I have worked for as they didn't have a ridiculous soul-crushing corporate culture. However over the past six months or so quality has declined enormously. Petsmart has bowed to the pressures of a hedgefund and have cut hours drastically, they are now running all stores on a skeleton crew. They have basically decided to let the burden fall on its 50,000 or so employees so a couple of rich investors can become even richer. Petsmart has become in a big way the exact kind of company that is creating record gaps in the middle class. I frequently miss breaks because there is not enough staff to cover them, not really even legal but Petsmart doesn't care.Tiny raises if any. They are eliminating many full-time positions to avoid paying vacations and healthcare. I now feel like Petsmart is a sinking ship and I recommend abandoning it. Avoid at all costs.

Pros

Everyone shares a love for pets. The salary is good, and the benefits good as well. Once you become a store manager, you get 3 weeks vacation instead of 2, and there is good bonus potential. The field leadership team is very enthusiastic about the company mission, and there is a ton of opportunity for growth.

Cons

Work life balance. Physical workload, for all levels of employees.
