Pros

Great people to work with, associates, groomers, Banfield

Cons

Labor cuts, as an ASL I had to do whatever the SL didn't feel like doing. After training him, external hire, he learned as much as he wanted and the Area Manager didn't care. Good old boys network is strong in PetSmart in FL!!

Pros

You can work with animals on a minimal level, you can build social skills by talking to customers regularly.

Cons

You'll more often than not be stuck with a schedule that leaves little to no time for personal matters, even as a part-time associate. You will barely be taught anything about petcare of the animals being sold, and will be expected to do your own research. Depending on the location, you may be forced to sell pets to homes that you know will abuse and/or kill said pets. You will recieve no benefits as a part-timer, and there is little chance of upward progression. You will be exploited for your generosity, and asked to take on additional task and/or shifts constantly with no compensation.

Pros

Out of all of the retail jobs I have worked, I feel more at ease at PetSmart than any other. My locations management is easy to talk to and get along with, yet firm when needed. I can always approach any situation knowing that, as long as I am in the right, my team will have my back. It is also the only company that I know of that has a charity organization solely for helping their associates in times of need.

Cons

The pay is higher than most retail jobs, but still not nearly a living wage for anyone who isn't single without kids. I have heard that I actually got lucky with my location's staff and that some of the others can be really hard to work at. I was rather disappointed in the company when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. We had signs posted everywhere and announcements stating that masks were required in the store. However, corporate told us that we were not allowed to enforce this requirement due to how violent some of the rabble could become. In this respect I do not feel safe in my store and that corporate doesn't have their employees best interests in mind.
