Petsmart a good place to work.

Pros

Everyone in the company is super friendly and it seems like most people are willing to help out others. For the most part, the company does seem genuinely concerned with the customers experience in the store rather than just the bottom line.

Cons

Managers often overlook things like hourly associates being late or calling in, rather than firing them and hiring someone who really wants a job. Some rules dictated by corporate are made by people who have obviously never worked in a retail store but are running them. It's very frustrating to have to comply with things that only clutter up an already busy day.

Pros

Its fun to go to work everyday. Most of the people shopping with or for their pets are eager to talk about them, so if you are the type of person who likes to engage in customer service this is the place for you. The company really cares about the health and well being of all pets we sell and and any pet we provide service to. They are also very good about allowing their managers to have personal lives. Managers normally work a 45 hour work week, and other than a few weeks around Christmas are not required or pressured to work more.

Cons

Some of the early shifts start pretty early - 4:00 in our store. The training program for managers could use some improvement. Training lasts 2 weeks and does covers policies and procedures and how to analyze reports, but does not really help to learn to complete the basic tasks required on a daily basis.

Pros

If you like working in the retail industry, and love animals it's a great place but it is very demanding.

Cons

You have a lot of managers (bosses) walking around constantly ordering you to do more. The weekends are the highest sale days, so you'll be working them. The communication is very poor between management and employees.
