Pros

Benefits, Open Time Off, Coworkers

Cons

I’m very disappointed frankly that I left a secure job to come to Petco. I have found the company to be very disorganized, lacking SOPs and accountability. They promote themselves as having a focus on culture but I’ve found that they continue to promote and celebrate those who lack emotional intelligence and leadership skills because above all they are top performers. The company has an initiative to promote from within but in reality they have no roadmap or outline for how promotions are accomplished. I feel like there is no job security as there have been layoffs effecting a hundreds over the past year and our stock continues to tank quarter after quarter while the executives praise fiscal growth. That growth is only due to the shoe string budgets, and withholding bonuses and merit raises.

HORRIBLE place to work

Pros

Employees earn raises when the store goals are met, PTO, discounts, so many learning opportunities

Cons

Not sure if this applies to every location but it does to mine: -EXTREMELY bad management -Get yelled at for socializing the animals -Abuse of "power" from all people in a place of management -Control issues from management -Unreasonable individual goals -Management cares more about the customers then it does the employees -Purposefully schedule employees under the required time for a lunch break so that people working 5.5 hour shifts won't receive a lunch break regardless of if they need one or not -Rarely any opportunities for promotions -Inconsistent weekly schedules -With all the new policies and changes, there's a LOT more customer complaints

Pros

Co-workers are generally cool, pet friendly.

Cons

Petco likes to appear to public eye like they are a great place to work and all inclusive, but it’s a social media facade. Generally coworkers are accepting but management is fake, will not take the time to get to know you and is solely focused on the bottom line. Since going public they are solely focused on Wall Street and doing WHATEVER it takes to hit targets at the expense of employee well being. You are expected to go into the office 3 days a week, no questions asked, but yet leadership that has been hired is still working remote out of state, with no plans of moving to be at the headquarters. They do annual layoffs to get rid of people they do not like. And if you aren’t laid off, your left to pick up the work load of the person who was. They preach work life balance, but if you actually try to implement that for yourself, or god forbid have a family your probably going to be let go. They try to do right by pets, but not by people. They also do not generally promote within, and hire outside for open roles, and you will be stuck and eventually leave.
