Pros

The opportunity to work with youth and their families to provide guidance and hope for positive community relations and personal achievement

Cons

The Administration/Management group are the sole contributors to very poor and demoralizing morale among court staff including probation and dependency. The obvious lack of leadership skills and unwillingness to make positive and desperately needed change based on staff concerns/needs is detrimental to the motivation of staff to go above and beyond to meet the needs of the youth, families, and community. Consensus among the majority of current and former staff is complete dissatistfaction with the "place and environment we work in" despite a "true love and passion for the work we do." This dissatisfaction is 100% attributed to a poor and incapable administrative/management group.

Pros

You can create opportunities but it requires some creativity on your part. We've got some forward thinking leaders and employees that are pushing the agency to move beyond government business as usual. They're challenging the status quo and asking why which is generating conversation and changes in our service levels and the demographics of our employees.

Cons

Slow to change to new ways of doing business. Lack of strong leadership in key positions. Outdated compensation structure and job classifications.

Pros

Pierce County tends to be very inclusive and reasonable in expectations. The benefits and compensation are wonderful and most county employees are excellent people.

Cons

The bureaucracy of a government organization by law and sometimes by politics can trifle talent and opportunities. Busy work may be assigned that does not add value and will ultimately not be completed. Policies and process hamper great ideas from progressing in a reasonable timeframe. Some employees have taken too much advantage of this while this frustrates those who want to provide excellent public service.
