Pros

Good benefits and retirement. Some great coworkers!

Cons

Many of the staff are actively looking for other jobs including some mid to higher level managers. Much change in agency some of which is not too good. Not a high level of satisfaction or confidence with agency director.....lots of turmoil. Change can be difficult, but if it is not managed correctly, it can be detrimental to the well being of the staff.

Working for your community. Amazing family benefits in terms of healthcare, time off (11 holidays, 12 days sick, 14 days PTO your first year), and your solid state pension plan.

Cons

Expect roadblocks and red tape in your way of projects and often daily tasks. As of 2025, funding cuts are looming at all levels which hasn't helped. Very little room for career development because there's little room to climb.

Bureaucracy with Admin, impossible to get promoted if you aren’t buddies with mgmt, expected to perform miracles and if any mistakes happen you get blamed for it, burnout and high turnover is inevitable
