A pretty good place to work, but its size creates challenges

If you have specific interests or skills, you can usually find a way to employ them. You can usually work pretty independently without micromanagement from immediate supervisors. Transfer opportunities are available.

Cons

Pay is a bit low. The annual review process is meaningless becasue there is no incentive for good performance, and no real penalty for poor performance. There is no merit pay. Promotion within the system provides very little benefit -- small increase in pay, but huge increase in stress. There is an emphasis on centralization, which undermines innovation on the department level and creates sort of a "cog in the machine" mentality.

The people suck. Their friends couldn’t pass a simple interview so they think they can take their anger out on me. As if it’s my fault they can’t speak at their big age. They really want me to feel bad for getting the job. The process was fair too. The work sucks too. Everything is an absolute mess. Accountants don’t know how to do anything. Manager doesn’t know how to do anything. The deputy they hired doesn’t know how to do anything. All they know is how to demand stuff and have unrealistic deadlines. It’s ridiculous and unbelievable. People literally took credit for so much of my work and get praises and raises over it. I absolutely so not recommend anyone work here. Especially in grants.
