Pros

free beer and cold brew on tap

Cons

- fake act like they will support you in developing your career but actually no one wants to see you succeed before you act like a work dog - didn't like it when we discussed our pay between ourselves, were paying our team more than the bd/sdr teams who, objectively, work harder than us. - at the all hands meeting (with the entire company) the CEO made a joke about the MC (who was pregnant) about how "we don't even know who the father is" and everyone laughed....... ? - every team outing was simply going out to drink - culture is almost akin to being part of a frat/sorority if you're into that - senior management of other teams will tattle on you - no work life balance. you're expected to make your quota and do anything you can to make it happen (wake up at 5am/stay up till 3am to make a call across the world) - my internet was down on the one day of the week you get to work from home. my manager didn't believe me. I had to send video and picture proof of me restarting my router, the computer not working, and the construction men working on the telephone poles outside for him to finally believe me. - another work from home day, a customer emailed me and, as I was typing a response, he screenshotted the email and messaged me asking if I was going to respond..... - if it's not obvious already, there was extreme micromanagement - my manager believed a lie from another manager, which resulted in punishment, without clarifying what happened with me. - will not respect you having pronouns other than he/him/she/her - seattle location is filled with top management and "higher ups" who look down on new hires and expect them to work like dogs. sf location is chill though

Pros

Great place to start your career - work 1/2 years to get experience. PitchBook does have some great, kind, willing to help employees from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Cons

Working at PitchBook is like putting lipstick on a pig. It's just not that great. They parade company culture and all the great people that work there but it's genuinely a cover-up for bad leadership, low pay, and favoritism. While a small group of departments have it together, I have never seen office politics come more into play than ever at PitchBook. Don't speak up if you are entry-level, leadership says they want to hear your opinion but really want you to get in line and follow what they have to say. I have to echo another review that states " Bad management on all levels, saw it across multiple departments. I witnessed and experienced directors who had no idea how anything worked on their own team, so were entirely unhelpful. Also, I saw lots of instances where one person was a single point of failure. Executive leadership seems out of touch with the needs of their employees." Some directors are so out of touch ( and spinless) that it seems like the only reason they still have their job is that the CEO likes them. On the topic of the CEO, he is aloof and really doesn't care what employees have to say - hence the return to office plan where some teams are in 5 days a week and other teams lie and say 5/4 days a week but really go behind the CEO's back and work way less in the office so they actually have a team. There is little to no trust and if you don't love PitchBook as much as he does then something is wrong with you. Consistently low pay across the board has resulted in great employees leaving for better pay and benefits. I would be wary of joining PB, while not everything is bad, the bad definitely outweighed the good for me and some of my other colleagues who left.

Pros

- you will learn about the basics of VC, PE, and M&A - you will learn basic communication and data collection skills - you will meet a few friends - a few free kegs of beer in the office

Cons

- It is pure data collection. period, end of story. - management is terrible (micromanaging, disloyal to employees, limit opportunities for growth...also they just had a round of mgmt layoffs in the research dept and gave employees no notice and no options) - little opportunity for growth - delayed action (payroll and bonuses not coming in on time, delayed title transitions) - laughable below-market pay (they will tell you it's competitive until the cows come home) - extremely political - extremely high turnover in research (people get sick of the low pay, friends realizing it and leaving, and of the mgmt) - sales and customer success will always be the cash drivers for PB and will always be more important than research

Hello, this is Peter Escher, Director of Research at PitchBook. Thank you for taking the time to write and provide feedback. Given the byline, I assume we worked together for over a year within the Research department; thank you for your contributions to the team while you were here. As I read your feedback, it sounds like you are frustrated by a number of items. We will review this list as a team – as always, with transparency – and see what changes we need to make. That said, we do strive to create an environment where great people do great things. I know many on the team have a different and positive perspective of PitchBook and Research. Thank you again. All the best in the next steps of your career - Peter
