Pros

Pixelberry is a place where what you put into your work can reward you with how much you get back. As a result, you can grow tremendously and be given a lot of amazing opportunities that can make for exciting, challenging, and rewarding work if you put in the effort. The people I got work work with were some of the smartest, most talented, and kindest people I’ve ever met. From the day I joined, the team not only welcomed me but actively encouraged and supported my voice throughout. Probably the studio’s biggest pro is that it truly values you as a human being and that’s reflected in the treatment you get from the CEO, the managers, and most of your peers. And as a wonderful plus, it was amazing to work in a gaming environment where over half the employees are women. The culture here is extremely open and accepting with lots of fun game hangouts in between.

Cons

- Similar to startup-culture, the folks that put in more effort tend to bear a much larger burden which can lead to burning out. However, the studio has already been working on measures to help mitigate this. - Pixelberry is a wonderful place to learn and grow very rapidly. However, the trajectory for growth after a couple of years can be unclear. Depending on your team, you may find that the environment can become too ‘cushy’, which isn't necessarily a bad thing depending on what your professional goals are.

Pros

Friendliest people I’ve ever worked with. Company cares about employees and is proof that a game company can be profitable AND a great place to work.

Cons

Design process is much slower and less efficient than I was used to, given large number of stakeholders. I at times felt unsupported in learning and doing my job. Like most places, your experience will depend on your direct manager.

Pros

This is the most transparent company I've had the pleasure of working for. This company has a culture of very much caring about their employees, and I have had to deal with very little amount of bureaucracy that an engineer at a big company will have to deal with. My colleagues are all very responsive and always willing to help each other, and frankly one of the primary reasons I like coming to work. There is a lot of cool, large feature work to be done, and it is easy to see the impact of your work as an engineer. Being able to implement features throughout the entire full stack of a successful online game is a joy few engineers get to feel.

Cons

Salary is probably not up-to-par with other companies within the same area (Bay Area, Silicon Valley) Half the engineering team is currently remote, so you'll have to be ready to deal with non face-to-face communication.
