Pros

Varies dramatically depending on where you are. There's potential for a lot of independence, but that's quite often a result of poor site leadership.

Cons

Hiring is based on who likes you. Skill and ability are a far second. If someone in management likes you, you'll get hired as a site leader even if you do not posses the basic skills to function in the job. There are no opportunities to contribute to the company on a larger scale. Only once a year will you have an opportunity to comment on anything the company does. If you are a male it is quite unlikely you will be able to advance in leadership within the company. Here are some stats: 7 of 38 executive leaders are men. 67 of 192 site leaders are men. You will also never get a raise for personal training, company policy. "Raises" for other roles are limited to 3%, which is really a cost of living increase, not an actual raise.

Pros

The people you work with daily are great!

Cons

Very hard to use the time-off you earn due to lack of staff for coverage. Zero growth opportunity outside of General Manager role.

Pros

You meet awesome people and come into contact with people from many different fields and backgrounds. Really the only thing worthwhile is the coworkers you meet and clients you work with.

Cons

Benefits are terrible. They don't even match your 401k. Moving up is difficult because they're constantly hiring people from the outside to management positions. It feels like being a current employee is actually a negative. There's clearly a gender bias in management, as an overwhelming majority of new managers are female. The starting pay for Exercise Specialists is laughable for what is asked for in the resumes. The company asks for a college degree and multiple certifications but pays close to minimum wage and doesn't provide an education stipend anymore.
