Pros

The building is great and benefits are good. A good portion of the employees are professional and work hard. Our customers are the best!

Cons

Awful managers, they know nothing about performance management. Upper management plays the popularity game that should have been left in high school. They don't realty have a grasp of who their good employees are and are losing them because of that. The is no loyalty to their long term staff. They make promises they don't keep to the customers.

Thank you for taking the time to provide some feedback. We are glad that you enjoy working with our customers and some aspects of your job. As a current employee, I would encourage you to contact the VP of People Ops so that we can review your specific concerns. It's difficult to address them without more information. We do our best to promote from within, and are always improving the training and resources that we provide to new managers. As always, we'll review this feedback with the leadership team and keep it in mind as we continue to improve on our culture and work environment.

Smoke and Mirrors

Pros

The people--some of my co-workers are some of the best people I've ever met--and smartest.

Cons

Management preaches one thing but practices many others. Too many moves that are contrary to what is preached. It appears the direction of the company is haphazard at best and changes often without logic. People in management positions who don't seem to have been put there for their management skills. A pecking order is obvious. as well as a "preferred group". Cliques exist in Billing, which is hard on those not in the "in" groups. CEO has zero trust in Development staff, who have been the reason the application has stayed relevant in the industry. The "ownership" of the company by employees seems more a way for the company to raise interest free money for the company--it will be interesting to see how it pans out. But replacing 401K with that is sketchy at best.

Need Better Managers

Pros

The idea of Practice Velocity is very cool. I loved the inside of the building. There was a barista on-site, which was nice. Lots of free lunches and after-work things to do. I met some really cool people working there. The open concept breeds a very social environment. Could be good or bad, but it made making friends at work much easier.

Cons

They always say that work is what you make it. If you find positives and meaning in your work, you'll probably love your job. If you don't, then you'll likely hate it. I think the only exception to that rule is what kind of management you're working with. Most people leave bad managers and this place is full of them. Granted, there are some great ones. But those who supervise the majority of the staff at PV are not so great. I felt personally victimized by my manager. I was insulted (for nothing that had to do with my job by the way) during a review, ganged up on during a team meeting with no intervention from my manager whatsoever, ostracized by my coworkers, and ultimately left with no choice but to find another job or just completely lose my marbles. I was hired in at an entry level, received no training from anyone on how to do my job, but I was still held accountable for mistakes that I made. My manager sought out opportunities to make me feel like an idiot. The idea of learning through being told what to do and accomplishing a job efficiently was less important than learning the humiliation of messing up. My case was not a fluke, either. I've never seen so many adults cry in a workplace. You could just be walking down the hall, grabbing a discounted $3 latte, and catch a biller bawling her eyes out by the bathroom. Outside of managers that lack empathy and understanding and have unfortunately found themselves in a leadership role, there were some other minor issues during my stint at PV. You'd have these few people who just kind of wandered around all day talking to their friends. Since it's all "open" that was pretty hard to miss. The team concept is great, but if you have any poor leaders at the helm of that team, things can get very cliquey and petty fast.

Thank you for taking the time to provide some feedback. I'm sorry that it didn't work out for you at PV. There are definitely options for those that have a problem with their manager - senior leadership's doors are always open, and anyone can come to People Ops for assistance. We are continually improving as a company and as managers, and this feedback will be reviewed by senior leadership.
