The company’s entire strategic direction was aimed at maximizing ownership’s exit value. Given owners short holding periods and mature stage of company these strategies all had immediate cash flow requirements - no long term strategies were entertained. This led to over-reliance on financial engineering and operational efficiency and a marked distrust of innovation. Any hints of new ideas and creativity were stifled in the name of short term profits. 90% of everyone’s focus was M&A for the sake of M&A - any product benefit to these acquisitions was merely a cover story.
