Pros

The folks tat work at Precision Effect are a lot of fun to work with. Lots of energy, creativity, and hard work. Boston is a wonderful city to live in and I never plan to leave it! The clients and projects are very interesting as well

Cons

The agency, at the end of the day, is no different than the majority of other pharma advertising agencies. They do the same types of deliverables with little innovation. Their new offices are in a building which is in in a sketchy part of town. Lots of cubicles with people housed like cattle. Noise, noise, noise, You have to pass homeless people and drug dealers to get into the office. Some of the top management are too controlling. While Precision Effect can draw on some of their sister agencies for scientific help, their "Medical Department" is very weak and led by person with an MA in English! This does not inspire scientific/medical credibility in the least. None of their Boston-based medical writers have advanced scientific degrees (PhD, PharmD, MD, DO). All in all, the company is a mirror image of a million other pharma advertising. They have grown in size, but not in innovative ideas. This is very surprising given the fact that Boston is full of highly trained docs and scientists.

Pros

Precision for Value is a rapidly growing company that still retains a small company feel. Unlike most publicly held agencies, no one here has ever been laid off because a client lowered budgets or left. If you're good, there is always a place for you. The best example is that there was an account team working on a drug for two years in advance of a launch, then the clinical trials didn't pan out and our client elected to drop the drug and large budget associated with launching it. Every person on that team stayed with the company and was assigned to different projects. The culture is performance driven and service oriented and if you buy in, you'll do well and be recognized for it.

Cons

The work is interesting but it's not "sexy" compared to work at a traditional advertising agency. The work is strategic and meaningful, you're helping patients get access to more effective drugs. If you want the variety of working on airlines, cookies and credit cards, this probably isn't the right fit.

Beware

Pros

Beautiful location with great views. That is about the only thing I recall as being positive but since there is a 20 word minimum I'll keep typing.

Cons

Upper management is unaware of the inner workings of actual teams. There are people who will never leave here since they are being promoted quite heavily for the time and experience they have. There is a very high turnover rate for the account teams since there is no upward mobility. The salaries are on the lower side for an agency and they work you to death and judge you if you are not there late at night. If you want a work life balance this is NOT the place for you. HR is very inexperienced, like most, they will tell you what you want to hear so beware. If you have another opportunity really think hard about this one because it might seem good upfront but it won't be in the end!
