Pros

Good health benefits to cover the mental health services you will need from working here

Cons

I have worked here for many years, and unfortunately, I would not recommend it to others seeking long-term stability or supportive leadership. During my time here, I have seen frequent layoffs that create a constant sense of uncertainty among employees. These layoffs often led to significantly increased workloads for remaining team members, without any additional support or recognition. Collaboration also suffers as more jobs are outsourced, making communication and team cohesion increasingly difficult. A particularly troubling shift occurred when salaried employees were reclassified as hourly workers — not for operational needs, but seemingly to avoid meeting Washington State’s salary exemption threshold. This move reflected a broader pattern of decisions made by senior management that prioritized cost-cutting over employee well-being and morale. While there are undoubtedly hardworking individuals at all levels of the organization, the lack of transparent communication, consistent instability, and disregard from senior leadership make it a difficult environment to thrive in.

Pros

I will start by saying this used to be a great company and I was proud to say I worked for them. Now I am disgusted and saddened by the decisions our leaders have been making. I would say the only good thing about working for Premera is that the benefits like health insurance and 401(k)? There really is no job security though. Not to mention now that most of operations is outsourced the few that have been kept on as full-time employees have more and more work piled on to them without any extra pay. There really is no morale as there was before more like for those that are still employed. It is like dog eat dog and I think everyone is just trying to not be the next person let go.

Cons

Because of the outsourcing and Ramirez focus changing from our customers the members and providers to a bottom line number. It is really our members and providers who are suffering, as well as all the employees. It is just disgusting how we are abusing the outsourced employees by piling on more and more work and expecting good results. What are CEOs are actually doing is quite the opposite of what they say. Our goals and values are.
