Pros

The people. I've worked with some of the most passionate, capable, change agents in my entire career at this company. The people definitely make this company survive.

Cons

Premera is struggling to figure out what it wants to be when it grows up. While it'd be easy to just blame the CEO for a lot of the struggles, it's clear the executive team isn't in sync and might even be actively working against each others' interests. Since 2018, Premera has had multiple different corporate strategies, and continues to pivot every 12-14 months, and not necessarily because of market conditions. Previously we had a "Business Transformation Office" only for it to be unceremoniously shut down less than two years later. Then, a revamped/renewed corporate strategy division moved under a long-time leader...that leader then moved on and since then has had a revolving door of leaders. More recently, following their "Essential Moves" strategy where tens of millions of dollars were allocated to specific strategic initiatives, they've pivoted again to Corporate Pillars. All this to say, that while many companies struggle with fluctuating market conditions, Premera continues to chase shiny objects (looking at you Kinwell, Medicare Advantage, HMO-style products) or just plain doesn't seem to remember why Premera was considered the health plan of choice in Washington State for so many years.

Pros

Good benefits and intention to provide employees with work life balance.

Cons

Leadership inconsistent decision making, and prioritization frequently prohibits progress. Lofty goals are frequently unfunded leaving employees squeezed to accomplish. Long standing systemic problems go unsupported and unsolved where it crosses divisional boundaries.
