POC? Expect a glass ceiling!
Pros
- Remote work. - Little hassle using PTO. - Ample training. - Decent healthcare if you have secondary insurance. - Modest tuition reimbursement.
Cons
- Glass ceiling: New cohorts of CSRs are largely POC, but the overwhelming majority promoted to positions of leadership after the one year mark (supervisors, leads, trainers) are white. - Lip service: There are dozens of trainings, postings and communications about the value of DEI, but you can expect to work on MLK day. - Ableist: They tout a progressive work culture, but will make you and your healthcare providers jump through endless hoops every 6-12 months for a reasonable accommodation as simple an extra 5 minutes to take a medication or manage a chronic condition. - Unforgiving: The standards and metrics are optimized by mathematicians but not sustainable for real people. You’re expected to maintain these standards for a year to be considered for a pay increase. If you fall short, they’ll basically say “better luck next year”. - Constrained: While it’s remote, you have to use a desktop setup connected to Ethernet and a VPN. This means any flexibility in traditional remote roles, such as the ability to work from a hotel, cafe or relatives house is nearly impossible. - Offshoring: Would rather ship jobs overseas than improve working conditions and pay living wages to Americans.
