Princeton does pride itself on its basic research, and for the most part they adhere to the principal of not having much purely applied research. Generally, they are not in the business of taking on too many assistant professors or grad students with the intent of cutting them after they have done their teaching duties.

Cons

Most of it involves the town. It is expensive and the restaurants are horrible, yet they put on such airs.

Pros

Great variety of diversity in the workforce. Princeton really values great experience which includes a mixed group of generations on campus. Princeton is an extremely inspirational environment to work in which is quite motivational. It's like working in a small city with a huge variety of career alternatives. Benefits are fabulous and the work life balance in my experience has been very manageable.

Too much red tape to get new initiatives in place
