Pros

They are large, so there are opportunities.

Cons

You are literally just a number to anybody outside of your small circle. Senior leaders (VP & C-Suite executives) are so woefully out of touch with the business of actually caring for patients that it is frightening. If you make a suggestion, you will be dismissed because you are not in the senior leadership club. It doesn’t matter if you have an MBA or doctorate and experience as a change agent, you will be dismissed.

Pros

Affordable health insurance, career growth opportunities (depending on position), tuition payments (taxed), tuition assistance.

Cons

Market adjustment was a joke. The average yearly increase for USA is minimum 6%. We only got 3%. Career growth not available for some, can not receive tuition payments and tuition assistance towards BSN at same time (advertised u can get both benefits at same time). Favoritism exists, lack of professionalism with some is disgraceful. Problems fall onto deaf ears, it seems lately. Absence of management. Increase in patient staff ratio makes workplace very stressful. Underpaid, under appreciated, no holiday bonuses, must request off almost 4-6 months in advance. Must find own coverage for any weekend day, you need off. PTO is pointless, if penalized when u call in sick with Covid, Flu, or legitimate sickness (yet they won’t allow you to work unless employee health approves you’re clear). Older nurses do indeed eat their young.
