UNION VALET

Business Outlook

Pros

Union pay rate for journeyman(which you get after 19ish months i think) is pretty good(around 23/hr). Full benefits are great. Free parking is a nice perk.

Cons

Zero incentive to do anything but the minimum to not get fired. No opportunity to move up since manager jobs are non-union and pay less than Valet rates, with loads more stress and responsibility. Valet staff often doesn't receive proper union mandated breaks and benefits, at least until the company is sued or threatened by the union. Junior management is staffed by lowest common denominator high school dropouts who are generally awful at their respective jobs. The ones who are decent usually leave the company quickly after realizing the working environment and stress level are not worth the bad pay.

Great people - fun place

Pros

I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The management team makes a tough job worth doing, and it was fun at times. I like that there was always some opportunity to move up if you were ready.

Cons

It is a hard job. You are outside all the time and you have to work some tough hours, but I knew that when I signed up for the job.

50/50

Pros

Depends on your accounts and level of interaction with your clients. Local management was full of good people and I genuinely enjoyed working alongside them. Very good teamwork on that end. No two days were ever the same. Very little micromanagement as long as you are keeping your client happy. Not a typical office job.

Cons

Company really lacks some of the basic tools you would expect in 2018. HR processes for employee changes are a mess. No on boarding process for new employees (with very high turnover for hourlies) and no real HR support at all. Everything is still done by paper which causes management level employees to spend much more time than necessary on what should be simple things. Very inconsistent policies from location to location. Just overall not a very organized company. Also- labor market extremely tight in the area I worked made recruiting a difficult task further exasperated by corporate pressure to reduce overtime. Zero work life balance. On call 24/7 unless you're on PTO. Be prepared to cover hourly employees every day.
