Pros

Many teachers are mission-driven and doing their best. Families and community are very supportive. Specialists (eg. science, art, PE, dance, Spanish) at DTES are highly skilled and passionate about their fields of practice.

Cons

*Principal is warm and well-intentioned...but is overwhelmed, poorly supervises the other school leaders, behaves impulsively (eg. sends all-staff e-mails without thinking them through, makes comments that shame and humiliate staff), and lacks conflict resolution skills (heavily biased and hardly follows through). *Members of the leadership team are cruel. Some have been known to lie, emotionally manipulate and gaslight staff. *DEI finger-pointing is OUT OF CONTROL! No sincere investment in developing staff. LOTS of calling people racist, naming white supremacist behaviors as they perceive them, but no real action or education for teachers. *Most students with "behavior issues" are black students with IEPs. Leadership does not name this or work to unpack why this is the case. They meet to make plans for these students often, but don't know what they are doing, communication/follow-through is terrible. *Teachers fear getting in trouble or doing the wrong thing because admin will fire you before they do anything restorative. Many teachers were not honest about their intent to return. I was warned by a veteran colleague not to let my coach know that I was not planning on returning bc she would be more hostile and treat me poorly for the remainder of the school year (she was right!)

Cons

BROOKLYN PROSPECT was once a great place to work. Changes in leadership over the past few years have caused low morale. The people leading the network, specifically who ever is in charge of HR/People do NOT care about staff. The new leader came off as cold and fake with no heart. She has said she cares about people, but I have heard leaders talk about her in fear, and question what she is doing. Change was promised, culture was promised, but all we see is desperation and accountability. Ever since the start of the year, people have been walking around in fear due to PIP's. There is a guy at the network in charge of giving PIPS, and lingers around. AVOID The academic team says they are routed in data, but have no idea what is going on, other than giving asking us to do more and more work.

Pros

Prospect schools has a positive view in terms of education for the future generation.

Cons

The current CPO is completely out of touch in terms of leading or even guiding the network to the right path. They're extremely condescending and deflects majority of the questions asked to someone else within their team. I've spoken to one of their direct report recently and it's a complete mess in their people team as well. The CPO is extremely micromanging and disguises their arrogance as support. "How can I support you in this aspect" but continues to deflect responsibilities to other leadership when it's a question directed towards their team. There are a few responsible and great minds in the People's team, they're just being misguided by the wrong figure. To the CPO everything is just a KPI or looking to increase numbers without seeing the relevant cause or distress it causes to their own team. I would HEAVILY advise that this CPO either be removed or provided a proper leadership workshop where they're not reigning terror into the school networks or their own team.
