Pros

Brooklyn Prospect has long maintained its reputation as one of the best schools in District 15. I've worked at Brooklyn Prospect for several years, and it continues to be where I'd like to send my own children to school one day. The teaching staff is brilliant, highly educated, and collaborative. The leadership is extremely approachable and willing to listen. I also enjoy a good work-life balance, which I know isn't the case according to teachers who have taught all the big NYC charters and ended up much happier at Brooklyn Prospect. Any teacher with good teaching instincts and a strong work ethic can be successful at BPCS.

Cons

I wouldn't mind being paid a bit more, but who wouldn't? Overall, the work continues to be engaging and rewarding, and the culture lines up with my personal values. That's what keeps me here.

Pros

Salary is ok for the position

Cons

The students run the place. You will have no support from staff. A student threatened me and I got fired. She is still there. Nothing happened to the student.

Pros

Great coworkers, awesome mission, love the students on most days, innovative curriculum model, Social Emotional Learning and Diversity Equity and Inclusion focused.

Cons

Terribly managed. Treehouse and Admin seem to have no clue how bad it’s been in the classroom and how much the pandemic has impacted these students behaviorally. No one could have predicted how bad it would be. 13 educators all announced they were leaving at the end of the school year. Many more that are staying but have a foot out the door. We had at least 2 Ops Officers quit at the start of the year and a bunch of people quit mid year. Bizarrely the school still moved forward with letting go a few quality educators and not renewing their contracts despite all this turnover. Students have no accountability. Some students were given “accommodations” to roam around the school hallways. This trickled down to lead to additionally escalating student behaviors through the year where a student choked out another one while on one of these “breaks.” Did they take this privilege away? Nope.
