The best place to be a teacher...

Pros

Diverse student body and staff; Warm culture; Employees actually send their kids to the school

Cons

It would be nice to have a few more happy hours/fun work events/perks, but the relative lack may be due to the slightly older (mostly 30s) teacher population.

Pros

As someone who has worked in education for a while now, I can say that I have finally found a place where I feel like children's needs are prioritized, teachers, staff, and leaders are happy, and innovative things are happening. New York is a tough city to teach in, but Brooklyn Prospect is figuring out how to make it all a bit more manageable, and a lot less stressful. Moreover, they are doing something really unique with their mission to diversify public schools in Brooklyn and I couldn't be more proud to be part of it.

Cons

Brooklyn Prospect is growing, for sure, and there are some things that are still being figured out. But I feel as though most of the good stuff, the important stuff, is already in place.

Pros

Amazing professional development opportunities. I learned so much as a teacher there and had the opportunity to move into leadership. Students are truly diverse and you know that you're actually making a difference. They're also sweet for the most part. If you're interested in being on the cutting edge of education and the charter shook world, Brooklyn Prospect is the place to be.

Cons

Work/life balance is a challenge, you need to have clear boundaries (which most people respect and honor) Your experience may shift depending on who is your department head, my department head was a treasure trove of knowledge and compassion. I learned a lot about restorative justice and teacher moves from her.
