PHI is often disorganized and mismanages Fellows - but overall experience team dependent

-It's a way to gain experience with a major public health institute. -Allow travel/living internationally

Cons

-PHI does not care very much about fellows as individuals, they care more about keeping their government contract. -They often distribute contradictory information about the fellowship. -They are not overly communicative.

GHFP's salary negotiation process is ridiculous and is neither transparent nor logical. It is unclear how they determine years of experience. They have no understanding of what fellows actually do on behalf of USAID and are not equipped to make a determination of salary. GHFP is naive to think that fellows do not talk to one another and understand the major disparities in salaries between people with similar experience performing similar work. I would never recommend GHFP to a friend after the experience negotiating my salary and feeling undervalued, misunderstood, and marginalized. GHFP is only able to get away with this because people want to work at USAID.

Cons

There are so many different projects that you don't really get to know anyone outside your own.
